He will replace recently retired Lars Ottersgård, a former executive vice-president for market technology.
In 2003, Jamie King founded Verafin, a St. John’s based company that is an industry pioneer in anti-financial crime management solutions. The original statement of NASDAQ’s agreement to acquire Verafin was announced in November of 2020, while in February of 2021 the official acquisition for 2.75 billion US dollars in cash was reported.
Congratulations to Mr. King for this amazing accomplishment, and for representing the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in the best way possible.
"I had an amazing web development work term with Global NL this past winter and cannot wait to delve back into the project - this time in a vastly different role. Though I’m a second-year Computer Engineering student, my earliest work experience was as a Search Engine Optimized Content Writer. I hope to bring those existing skills into play and develop both digital media design and strategy skills."
"Global NL’s mission of connecting this beautiful province’s residents and citizens across the world is an important one and I am delighted to have the opportunity to grow with the organization for over half a year in two different profiles. I cannot wait to start working with the genial Global NL Leadership team and look forward to making innumerable new connections as I contribute to expanding Global NL’s reach across the world.

"From its inception, I’ve firmly believed in the goals of GlobalNL in connecting and empowering people passionate about NL and bringing together our most powerful resource - the people that come from here! I especially love the podcast and the Success Stories!"
"I have always followed my curiosity when it came to my education and career and have worked in theatre, film, marketing production and even in a law firm. My career really started to take focus when I joined the Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship as the Community and Marketing Coordinator in 2016. From there I learned about the startup world and tech sector by supporting student entrepreneurs to launch their businesses through educational programming, funding, and network building."
"When I first heard of the group (GlobalNL) I wanted to be a part of it. I think so many great business people are from this province. I want to be a part of helping others succeed and at the same time work with others to provide guidance on how to succeed. It's really the model of People Stuff.”
Garrett is a Memorial University Alumni, graduating with aBA in History and Political Science. He is now a business leader and technologist with experience in software development, information technology, and broadcast/video production. Garrett's management skills combined with his understanding and management of risk helped him build a solid reputation and establish a career in the UK.
This gave him an introduction to the software industry and allowed him to discover his sales skills. Garret has since gone on to grow and sell another computer software company, and is now Director at Dreamtek, Co-CEO at The Virtual Forge, and a Chairman of CleanCar.io.
Recently, Garrett undertook a role as Non Executive Director at the Harlow Campus of Memorial, where he is exploring options to make Harlow a support hub for NL companies coming to Europe. This initiative aligns with Garrett's belief that NL companies need to expand their target markets outside of NL
Expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic with Students on Ice sparked Donovan’s efforts to shape public policy through storytelling. Subsequently, Donovan helped found a community radio station, was a delegate at the United Nations Earth Summit, and ran for office in their hometown of Bell Island, becoming one of the youngest and first openly queer elected municipal officials in the province.
By the time Donovan was 23, they had served a four-year term on town council, delivered a TEDx talk, advised a Premier and a Prime Minister as an appointee to two advisory councils and negotiated on behalf of Canadian youth at the Y7 Summit, official counterpart to the 42nd Annual G7 Summit.
In 2018, Donovan was appointed Vice-Chair of the technical committee responsible for developing the National Standard of Canada for the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Post-Secondary Students. Concurrently, Donovan works as the health communications lead for the Health & Wellness Centre at the University of Toronto and was a spokesperson for the annual Faces of Mental Illness Campaign.
